Department of Road Design, Geodesy and Land Management

Dmytro Oleksandrovych Pavlyuk – the Head of the Department of Road, Geodesy and Land Management, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Senior Research Officer, Acting Member of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” breastplate, the USSR Merited Inventor, engaged in the problems of evaluation of transport and operational qualities of highways.

The department was founded at the Kyiv Automobile and Road Institute (at present, National Transport University) since its establishment. The department underwent a number of reorganization changes: integration-separation from the Department of Hydraulics (1947-1960). In 1993, the Department of Engineering Geodesy joined the Department of Road Design, therefore the study at the Department is currently conducted in the following areas: Highway Road Design and Engineering Geodesy.

The main Research Areas at the Department of Road Design, Geodesy and Land Management:

further road design development on the systemic design basis;
improvement of the constructive road elements on the basis of exploring traffic flow patterns;
research of the cars harmful emissions impact on the road environment;
further road reconstruction design theory elaboration, the development of new methods and ways of the road state assessment, the research of scientific fundamentals of cartographic support for the Ukrainian transportation networks design (theory, principles, methods, levels, mathematical basis, map topics, key indicators, peculiarities of specialized sets formation of relevant topics for dimensional data infrastructures).

There is a Highway and Airfield Laboratory at the department, which is in charge of research activity in elaborating regulatory documents, mobile laboratories, new devices and tests of transport performance characteristics of highways to meet Ukravtodor and other organizations’ requirements.
