Volodymyr Petrovych Polishchuk – the Head of the Department of Transport System and Traffic Safety, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, for many years he was a Member of the Specialized Doctoral Councils D26.059.02, D26.059.03, “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” award, Honored Transport Worker of Ukraine, Honored Roadster of Ukraine, “For Scientific Achievements” award from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, author of the Law of Ukraine “On highways”. He is engaged in the problems of road traffic organization on the street and road networks of cities and roads of general use.
The Department of Transport Systems and Road Safety was established on June 26, 2008.
The department has seventeen full-time faculty members, including four professors; four associate professors; four senior lecturers; five assistants.

The department is a graduating department for the training of specialists in the speciality “Transport Technologies (Road Transport)” under the educational programs: “Intelligent Traffic Management Systems”, “Urban Transport Logistics”, “Transport and Logistics Systems of Freight Road Transportation” and the educational and scientific program “Smart Transport and Logistics for Cities”.

- development of the transport process of road transportation theory;
- improvement of traffic organization methods;
- development of methodological principles of traffic management on highways;
- design of automated traffic control systems;
- formation of a highly efficient container transport system for intercity road and mixed transportation;
- development of scientific bases for passenger traffic management;
- development of a methodology for improving urban transport systems;
- formation of rational route systems;
- improving the level of environmental characteristics of traffic organization schemes;
- study of psychophysiological features of driver behaviour;
- determination and improvement of the efficiency of functioning of street and road networks of cities and public roads of Ukraine;

International activities:
The Department of Transport Systems and Road Safety participated in the implementation of the international project Master in SMArt transport and LOGistics for cities (SMALOG) action “Capacity Building in higher education” within the framework of the EU Erasmus+/KA2 program, which supports projects, partnerships, activities and mobility in the field of education, training, youth and sports. The project number is 585832-EPP-1-2017-1-IT-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP.
